Cat Spraying - You Can Fight Back

by Paul Proctor

In the last few years, cat spraying has become more recognized as a treatable problem. Many cats spray for a variety of physical and behavioral reasons, so take your cat to the veterinarian to determine which is the problem in your cat's case. While cat spraying is a simple behavior, it can lead to serious problems in cat owners' homes unless it is stopped.

One of the major problems that owners of male cats face is spraying. One way to combat the problem is to have your cat neutered. This should stop most male cats from spraying, especially in the home, but the costs associated with neutering prevent some owners from being able to "fix" their cats.

Some people believe that a medical procedure such as neutering a cat is inhumane. Some people feel their pets should not be forced to undergo to what they consider cruel treatment. For people that feel neutering would hurt their cat or keep them from breeding for income or to have more cuddly baby kittens there are options that may be better suited for them in lieu of having their kittens neutered.

On the other hand, some people feel that they have some particular issues which would create a serious problem if they neutered their male cats. For example, some pet owners who have kittens also have the intention of breeding their kittens once they have grown into cats.

This is also the case for cat owners, who want to breed their male cat. Behavior modification is an option you have to think about under these circumstances.

The best way to keep a cat from spraying all over the house is to neuter it. But if there are reasons you can't have your cat neutered, you'll have to find some other way to keep it from spraying. Spraying can result in odor and nasty-looking stains all over everything, and it becomes a big problem when the cat is continually spraying furniture, clothes, and carpets.

Cat Spraying can be a real unpleasant and destructive problem for a cat owner. It may well top the list of cat problems. Both the stains and strong odor are very difficult to remove. Neutering is the most common solution. Neutering usually solves the problem. Neutering may not be an option. Some feel it is not right, others may wish to breed their pet or the procedure may not be possible because of the cats health. This behavior can be a real challenge to deal with if neutering is not a viable option and behavior modification is the option.
